Submit your Favorite Place in Second Life--response to "SL All Growed Up"

Jenn contemplating SL at CarminaToday I came across an article by former SL critic, Chris Abraham, commenting about how SL is now all grown up and doing business. I commented there in response to his piece, however it got me thinking. If SL is only accessible via "the people you know" to guide you, then how and why did so many of us stay? And how, if at all, is this website helpful to the SL Community at large?
